Cuddly Kitten Day

There’s a pretty cute pet holiday coming up. March 23rd is Cuddly Kitten Day! Cuddling cats is one of the best things in life, as far as we are concerned. Read on as an Ellicott City, MD vet offers some tips on snuggling your feline friend.

Cuddle Often

Kitties need to feel loved to truly thrive. Pay lots of attention to Fluffy! Even just giving your furry buddy a quick forehead pet as you pass by will help her feel safe and cared for.

Use Cuddle Time Wisely

Does your kitty like to snooze on your lap? Keep Fluffy’s brush handy, and gently brush her as she is relaxing. This is also a good time to give your feline friend a quick inspection. Keep an eye out for things like cuts, bruises, sore spots, swelling, and/or any other signs of illness or injury.

Don’t Force Cuddles

Never force attention on a cat, no matter how adorable she looks. This can make Fluffy uneasy, as she may feel stifled or trapped. Let your kitty come to you when she wants cuddles. (Of course, your furball may decide she wants attention in the middle of the night or when you’re busy doing something, but that’s beside the point.)

Alternatives To Cuddling

Not all cats enjoy being petted or held. Some will tolerate only it for a moment or two. That’s purrfectly fine! Fluffy may be quite content to just hang out beside you. Pamper your furry friend with treats and toys instead, and just talk to her. You’ll still be able to get that little motor going.

Cats That Need Cuddles

There are thousands of cute, lovable kitties in animal shelters who haven’t found their forever homes yet. If you aren’t ready or able to adopt one of these sweet cats, consider offering a donation to an animal charity or rescue. Even spreading the word on social media will help!

Oblige Cuddle Requests

Our feline pals have some super cute ways of letting us know that they want cuddles. Fluffy may just hop into your lap when she wants to snuggle. She may also meow at you, head butt you, rub against your legs, or even jump into your arms. Oblige these adorable requests for attention!
